The History of Kimmon Place

The original farmhouse was on the corner of Sunflower Meadows Lane and Donlin Drive.

One of the older brothers, Baynum, never married and lived in the homeplace until he moved to a nursing home in the 1990's.  He built "Baynam Pond" in the mid-1950's.

The 121-acre tract of land now known as Kimmon Place came into the Stephenson family with deeds dating back as early as 1879. The large tract was deeded to James Kimmon Stephenson and wife, Ada in 1929.  The Stephenson's raised five sons and one daughter in the farm environment which existed until the current infrastructure was set up to form Kimmon Place in 1999.  Linwood Kimmon Stephenson, the youngest of the children and stepfather to Donna Pace and Linda Roberts-Betsch (Sisters' Legacy), received the deed to the land as the survivor.   Linwood continued to plant amazing vegetable gardens until his death in 1999.  He grew beautiful 6-8' sunflowers on the road which is now known as Sunflower Meadows Lane.  The original farmhouse and barns began at the corner of Sunflower Meadows Lane and Donlin Drive in Kimmon Place.  A few very old apple trees continue to exist on Sunflower Meadows Lane.

Crops were grown in addition to many vegetables and included cotton and soybeans. The other street names were developed from family names, Kimmon Way came from the family middle name of James and Linwood Stephenson, Baynam Pond Drive was taken from older brother, Baynum, (the spelling of the street name was changed slightly due to counties not wanting to use proper names), Donlin Drive is a combination of Donna and Linda of Sisters' Legacy and Windsong Valley Drive evolved from the sounds that came from surrounding woods so full of wildlife.  Falkirk Ridge, where The Reserve lots exist, and Cotesworth Drive were existing streets in the Cotesworth subdivision.  The Stephenson family would be very proud of Kimmon Place as a development and the neighbors left to be the caretakers of this beautiful land!                                                              ~ Mrs. Donna Pace
